In-Mind Magazine - Making Psychology Accessible

Welcome to the website of the Inquisitive Mind. The Inquisitive Mind, or In-Mind, is the In-Mind Foundation's flagship online quarterly magazine for psychology. We publish a peer-reviewed magazine, and we'd like to think that our journal is the highest impact journal in psychology (though have no data to back this claim up). Without citations, but with thousands of readers! We aim to interact with everyone interested in everyday human concerns, informing you on the hot trends in scientific psychological research. Science has its own language and you might not feel like having the time to keep up-to-date. We will bridge the gap by bringing you in-depth articles, our Big Questions in Society, our Blog, our Book Reviews, our Videos, or other forms, such as an iPhone or Android app, that all catch your mind.

The In-Mind Foundation

In-Mind was founded in 2006 by Hans IJzerman as an online magazine with brief articles summarizing research from social psychology (more on this below). Back then, the magazine was started as an interface between the empirical journal articles (mostly read by scientists) and the 'real world'. Its primary goal was to bring scientific findings directly from the scientific lab to the world. In its early stages, articles were written and published without peer review. Since then, the magazine has had an enormous development. When articles are published online now, three experts (one on the topic area, one on social psychology in general, and a writing expert) have reviewed the material.?

A number of years following this initation, the In-Mind team started to develop other activities and publishing in other languages (such as German, Portuguese, Dutch, and Italian). Because of this, the In-Mind board decided to found the In-Mind Foundation as the governing board for the magazines and other activities in 2012.??In 2015, the editorial policy was changed to Psychology in its totality.?

A Summary of the Foundation's Activities

We aim to serve you by demystifying psychological research and to invite you to engage in thinking about our findings in an accessible, but mature and in-depth manner. Some of our articles refer to questions that concern society as a whole, such as altruism, the influence of violent media, stereotypes, honor, or how the body influences your thoughts. These topics are but a small sample of popular articles currently posted on the In-Mind website. We offer quality reviews of important areas, creating a climate in which a general public and scientists can engage in stimulating debates on important topics.

Edutainment

What makes In-Mind a reliable teaching tool that functions as a source for public edutainment is that articles undergo peer-review before being accepted. We provide attractive and informative articles geared towards interaction between scientists and non-scientists. The quality of the articles have been recognized by the academic community; In-Mind articles have been used as class materials in Singapore, the Netherlands, and the United States. Moreover, In-Mind’s format is now used to develop Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, and German language versions.

In short, In-Mind is the product of a collaboration of committed individuals who hail from all parts of the world with at least this in common: a love of psychology and the desire to broadcast its findings to the public. Our website has not only the potential to transform individuals' assumptions and reevaluate the way they view the world, but also the potential to engage diverse communities in a dialogue on how we can all work together to improve the human condition. From these global origins, In-Mind fosters a more accessible and open community of inquisitive readers and psychologists.

We welcome you to In-Mind and invite you to challenge others with your provoking thoughts!
